Public places of business and services are required to be handicapped accessible (P.L.110-325 Americans with Disabilities Act). Features of a Common Wheelchair
Generally speaking, wheelchairs are designed for the rider to self-propel. With the large rear wheel within arms’ reach, a person can push himself or herself independently.
Nearly all wheelchairs have sling seats and backs, so that the chair can be collapsed and put into a vehicle or out of the way when not in use. Even the footrests and armrests can be removed to make the chair easier to stow, clean or repair.
