Need singing jobs? Don’t have the luxury of a traditional singing career? This is a career guide for singers that will help you get singing jobs and launch your singing career!

Embarking on a singing career isn’t the easiest thing in the world. There is plenty of competition and there are limited job openings. However, singing jobs might not be as scarce as you think, and are a great way to break into the singing industry. I want to raise awareness of all the singing jobs out there to help those less financially fortunate than others. If you have lots of money, unlimited connections, or were just born into the singing industry, this article is not for you.

To start, you have to decide where you want to work in the singing industry. The way I see it, there are two paths to take in your singing career. You can perform or you can produce, the artistic end or the technical end. I know, these lines often blur, but you know what I’m getting at in terms of choices you have to make.

For the purposes of this article let’s assume you take the singing route, as in you will sing. Next up, do you want to be lead singer of a band, sing in operas, theatrical musicals, solo vocalist, etc.? Obviously, this can change and evolve as your singing career matures, but you should have some plan or vague idea of what you want to accomplish. This does not mean, however, that you cannot dabble in each genre or category of singing. By all means, rap on the weekends and rock out during the week, except for Sundays when you sing in the choir. Do whatever is necessary to give you a steady paycheck. When you’re in so many areas, you’ll be surprised what connections you will make. Now, as you may have guessed, you will not start your singing career on top with a high paying singing job that features you on television or the radio. Instead, you will most likely be starting out as a “nobody” with high hopes and lots of potential, unless your father knows some people that can get you a singing job.

Before we get any deeper into this article, understand that like any profession, you will have to put in your dues before you can reap rewards. So when you hear this next part, you may think to yourself, “What? That’s beneath me. I’m not going to do that.” Well, if you say that, you’re in the wrong line of work. It will be hard and at times and might push you to your limits, but if you’re passionate and driven you will endure.

Now, you’re sitting home, thinking of your future life as a rock star or Broadway performer, but there’s a problem. You have zero experience. Well, time to get some. You don’t have the resources to attend some prestigious vocal or music school, and you don’t have any formal training. Don’t fret, you still have options, but it will take some work so don’t get discouraged.

Time to suck it up and get out into the workforce, but make sure you can get a job that incorporates singing. Singing jobs like this include anything from volunteer singing to entertain the elderly or sick, to being a singing waiter. You could be a singing telegram (yes, they still have them), sing in dinner shows, sing radio jingles, be in TV commercials (national or local), sing at theme or amusement parks, or get singing gigs at local bars and clubs. Research and try to sing at local ceremonies or annual events. There are graduating film directors or animators that might need your voice for an upcoming project. Sing in the chorus of a theater production or in the church choir. Don’t forget, you can always start or audition for a band. You could soon land a gig as a back-up singer for a touring band. You could sing the anthem at a sporting event (doesn’t have to be at Madison Square Garden), or even get a spot on some Internet promotion. These are some singing jobs that you might not have thought about before, but they are still singing jobs. Although some are not ideal for a rock star persona, they will add to your singing resume and help develop your skills as a singer. Who knows who might be watching you sing, it might be a record producer out with his family. In the meantime, scour the classifieds for singing auditions.
